The Weekly Operational Cadence
- Daily: Async standup in Slack. Every engineer: done / doing / blockers.
- Weekly: Sprint planning, velocity tracking, contractor hour review.
- Biweekly: Sprint demo and retrospective â what shipped, what slowed the team.
- Monthly: Staffing review â right capacity? Any contractors to extend, offboard, or convert?
- Quarterly: Vendor review â quality, speed, rates.
Reporting to Leadership
Three metrics every COO should track: sprint velocity (features per sprint, trended), quality (bug rate, production incidents), and cost efficiency (cost per feature point, contractor vs permanent mix). These tell you whether the operational model is working, regardless of whether you understand the technical work itself.
